Calculating Your Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint Calculators are a highly valuable tool in helping reduce one's carbon load on the earth.  These establish a baseline which then can be compared each year to see if one really is lowering one's impact on the earth.  Most calculators also offer suggestions to help reduce one's load.  The following are links to some of the more common calculators, with a brief description of each one's strengths and weaknesses.

  • Provides average figures if you don’t want to look up your own 
  • Each category includes pledge to reduce your consumption 
  • Downloadable Excel Spreadsheet version available for working offline 
  • Doesn’t include carbon emissions from flights, goods, or services 
Results provide:
  • Your current total of CO2e in US tons and subtotals in household, transportation, and waste 
  • New Total After Your Planned Actions 
  • U.S. Average Your planned actions savings in gallons of gas, numbers of trees planted, tons of recycling 
  • Provides links to information about climate change and reducing your carbon emissions
